Meet the candidate
I grew up in Sugar Land, Texas with my mom and three sisters. My mom, a hardworking art teacher, taught me the importance of using your unique talents to serve your community. As the daughter of a single mother, I was aware from an early age that our political, financial, and legal systems were not designed to support our most vulnerable communities. Intent on pursuing that cause, I graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Women’s Studies and International Studies.
Since graduating, I have put that education to work at non-profits in Chicago, San Francisco, and Seattle and have dedicated myself to projects ranging from women’s homelessness to international microfinance to healthcare. Prior to moving to West Texas, I worked at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as a Senior Portfolio Manager in Global Development. In that role, I worked to better understand the vulnerable populations we served- individuals, families, and communities- and consider how to best meet their needs in the design and implementation of programs, system improvements, and investments. I relied on my strong project management, financial, and analytical skills to manage a multi-million dollar portfolio and gained valuable experience coordinating with partners all over the world. These skills have served me in my current position as a Program Director for CCAISD, working to develop a district model that will prepare our students for college, technical trades, and future careers.
I am passionate about using my experience and expertise to support the Van Horn community, and if elected, I will work tirelessly to serve this city.
